🌹 Rosie’s Story: From Mustang to Mission
In 2024, Rosie came into our lives as an untitled, untrained 3-year-old Mustang. Originally adopted through the BLM Mustang program, her first owner realized she wasn’t equipped to train her — and rehomed her to us.
From the moment she stepped off the trailer, Rosie bonded instantly with my daughter Natalie — and honestly, with everyone she met. Curious and sweet, we named her “Rosie” because she was nosy in the most endearing way.
Despite being green, Rosie was the most willing and forgiving young horse we’d ever worked with. By her fourth ride, she was confidently tackling trail obstacles. Soon after, she was walking calmly into the ocean, unfazed by waves, tents, or seagulls. We knew she was special.
Because of her smaller size, we were committed to finding her the right forever home — one where she’d be appreciated and not outgrown. After nearly a year of love and training, Rosie earned her official BLM title, and we carefully rehomed her to someone who claimed to be an experienced Mustang owner.
Unfortunately, within just five days, we knew something was wrong. Rosie wasn’t given time to adjust or build trust. She was overwhelmed, pushed too quickly, and labeled as aggressive. We knew we had to bring her back.
And we did.
On August 17, 2025, after a 48-hour, 1,600-mile journey, Rosie returned home — thanks to the generosity, belief, and support of our incredible community.
She’s now safe at Heartland Estate, resting in quarantine, enjoying her hay and grain, and beginning a 30-day round of ulcer medication.
But her journey is far from over.
With time, healing, and continued care, Rosie will be trained as a therapy horse, equine-assisted learning pony, and trail partner for the community.
She trusted us once.
You helped us earn that trust back.
Now we move forward — together.
